Tivusat Now Exceeds over 3 Million Active Smart Cards

Italian Satellite Broadcaster TivuSat has announced that it has now over 3 Million active Smart Cards in use. This represents over 9% of Italian households although it is assumed Italian nationals living abroad may also be using Tivsat to view Italian TV such as Rai and Canale 5 outside of Italy.

Tivusat launched in 2009 as a satellite based broadcaster and transmits from the Hotbird Satellite and requires an official Tivusat satellite receiver and viewing card which has to be registered to an Italian address that has an upto date TV licence and the applicant must provide a Codice Fiscale (National Insurance Number) before the card can be activated.

Currently Tivusat provides over 90 channels including Rai, La7, Mediaset, Sky Italia and Discovery Italia. Tivusat boasts an impressive 30 of these channels are in HD and at the moment 3 4K channels that reserved for special events.
