The Video on Demand service BBC iPlayer has come a long way since it's launch in 2007. Originally content was only available via a PC and later mobile devices but since TVs have become Smarter iPlayer is now for some the prefered method of viewing both on demand and live BBC programmes for many people in the UK.

The iPlayer platform has received 236 million requests for content in July 2017 and the demad is increasing all the time.

In July the BBCs new crime drama In The Dark received over 1.6 million requests making it the top programme for July whilst Eastenders was 16th out of the top 20 most popular programmes in July.

“Watching BBC iPlayer through the TV is now easy to do and for many people it's become their preferred way to view BBC programmes, both on-demand and live,” commented BBC controller of programming and daytime Dan McGolpin. “We release a wide selection of fresh content every month of the year and July saw strong performances from a mix of gripping drama series and challenging investigative documentaries.”
