Freeview is the name of the digital TV platform owned and operated by the five major broadcasters. To receive it you need a DTT tuner either built in to a TV or DVD or via a set top box. Reception will depend on the signal available from your local transmitter. You can check your predicted reception on the Freeview website here.
Most modern tvs have built in DTTs (Digital terrestrial tuner) for Freeview reception, older models may not. There are several budget set top boxes currently available from Triax, Linsar, Metronic and Goodmans.
Freeview PVR (personal video recorders) or Freeview plus boxes allow recording onto hard drive for timed recordings and easy playback. Popular models are available from Humax and Sagemcom.
Freeview HD receivers are the latest receivers to come on to the market. Many transmitters are yet to broadcast HD but will upgrade in the not too distant future. Models available with HD and HD+ (PVR) from Triax, Philips, Humax and Sagemcom.
