DAB (Digital Audio Broadcast) radio receives signals in a different way from FM radio.

 
DAB uses a single frequency network (SFN) which means a particular radio station transmits on a single frequency over the whole country; this enables the radio station to achieve a better coverage level. The significance of this is that you can receive the same signal from different transmitters at the same time, therefore combining the signal strength for a stronger signal than if you just received signal for a single transmitter.
 
Unless you live in a poor coverage area the best option for DAB is a Single Element Dipole Aerial which will enable you to receive signals from multiple transmitters. For fringe or weaker signal areas a DAB 3 Elements Aerial would be recommended.

 

 

DAB Aerials are mounted horizontally or vertically depending on the transmitter being received. All DAB aerials mount on a vertical pole up to 1.5 inch. They can be mounted internally usually in a loft or externally depending on the signal.

What does a DAB aerial cost ? Expect to pay around £50 for a DAB aerial plus the cost of a pole and installation.

DAB Distribution: DAB can be distributed to multiple points using a standard RF distribution amplifier with either a dedicated DAB/FM  input or via a combiner. A DAB or combined UHF/DAB/FM wall plate is used to diplex the signal.
